Help Support an Innovative EcoTones Community Concert at River Hook in June!

EcoTones Concerts presents imaginative outdoor performances sited in local public nature spaces, exploring connections between humans and the natural
world. Inspired by the word ecotone from ecology meaning a transition zone rife with life, EcoTones Concerts encourage audiences to visit local nature spaces that they may not otherwise discover, and increase exposure to world-class live creative music outside the confines of a formal concert hall.

On Sat. March 16, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Old Stone Meeting House in Upper Nyack, cellist, composer, and EcoTones founder Jody Redhage Ferber is joined by Grammy-nominated violinist Sara Caswell and renowned vocalist and guitarist Camila Meza in a fundraising trio concert to support the professional musicians of the upcoming EcoTones @ River Hook Preserve. The trio will play musical selections inspired by the natural world, creating a “musical ecotone” between chamber music and jazz improvisation. The trio will provide a sneak preview of new music being developed for the full-scale EcoTones event at River Hook Preserve on June 2, 2024. This intimate chamber concert is limited to 35 seats. Light refreshments and drinks will be available. Tickets are a $25+ suggested donation and can be reserved at www.ecotonesconcerts.org.

About EcoTones@River Hook

EcoTones @ River Hook Preserve on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at 2:00 pm (rain date of June 9 at 2:00 pm) invites audiences to discover world-class acoustic musicians along a half-mile “Music Trail” through Upper Nyack’s River Hook Preserve, getting up close and personal with instruments from all four instrument families in small ensembles scattered alongside the trail playing music inspired by River Hook's unique natural features. The performance features the Nyack High School Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Tanya Chanphanitpornkit alongside world-class, Grammy-nominated and Grammy-winning professional musicians from Rockland and Westchester Counties and the surrounding region.

Audiences meander at their own pace to visit a Birdsong Stage;’ a 'Flora and Fauna Percussion Grove,’ featuring percussion instruments made from plant and animal parts; a trio of 12-foot Alphorns playing above the former sheep pasture; ‘The Wood Stage’ featuring woodwinds and stringed instruments; and a 'Water Percussion Stage' at the Spring House and adjacent seasonal stream.  Following the ‘Music Trail’ portion of the event, all musicians and audience will convene at the preserve’s central carriage house for a wheelchair-and-stroller-accessible sit-down 75-minute concert set featuring the professionals of the EcoTones Ensemble alongside the Nyack High School Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Tanya Chanphanitpornkit.  The full ensemble will perform musical selections inspired by the nearby Hudson River, Hook Mountain, and the concept that everyone belongs in this treasured public nature space—human and nonhuman alike.

EcoTones is thrilled to partner with local arts nonprofit ArtsRock.org to present this event open to the public, and thanks the Trustees of the Village of Upper Nyack for making this event possible, as well as the generous support of local Gold Business Sponsor Greenbush Construction and Silver Business Sponsor Long Path Outfitters.

Confirmed performers include members of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and nationally and internationally-touring musicians Mayra Casales (percussion), Sara Caswell (violin), Tanya Chanphanitpornkit (conductor), Barbara Currie (alphorn, French horn), Alan Ferber (trombone, compositions), Ben Kono (woodwinds, saxophone, compositions), Jesse Lewis (guitar), Erik Ralske (alphorn, French horn), Jody Redhage Ferber (cello, compositions), Glen Schloss (percussion, drums), Zaneta Sykes (percussion), and Orlando Wells (viola).

This is a BYO-Everything event with audiences providing their own camp chairs, picnic blankets, snacks, and drinks. Audience members embarking on the "music trail" portion of the event should wear appropriate footwear.  The rain date is Sunday, June 9, 2024 at 2:00 pm also at River Hook Preserve.  The event requires advanced registration at www.artsrock.org.
