Stormwater

Upper Nyack Stormwater Program

Stormwater is water that comes from rain or melting snow that is not absorbed into the ground. Controlling stormwater and keeping it free from pollutants at the local level is mandated by law.

Upper Nyack is required to maintain a permit for stormwater discharges from our Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4s). The State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) Permit Program is administered by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).

Upper Nyack, as an MS4, must report annually on: our efforts to prevent stormwater runoff into the Hudson River, our processes for controlling runoff during construction, and the ways we educate residents and builders on best practices in stormwater control and pollution prevention.
