Now in Force - A New Local Law Regulating Sound in the Village of Upper Nyack

What you need to know

The right to quiet

Loud and persistent sound at all hours is a frequent complaint made by the citizens of Upper Nyack. Residents came to the Village Board, asking for relief. After three years of public meetings, panel discussions, and public hearings, a new local law has been passed regulating sound within the Village of Upper Nyack. It seeks to balance the right to use one’s property in a reasonable manner with the rights of other property owners to enjoy times of quiet. The new law has been filed with the State and is now in force.

Please review the text of the law for complete information here.

The law regulates sounds produced by:

  • Leaf blowers
  • Outdoor power tools and machinery
  • Heavy machinery
  • Radios, TVs, etc.
  • Outdoor music at restaurants
  • Animals
